The Adventures of Milly-Molly-Mandy by Joyce Lankester Brisley

Charlotte’s Web by E. B. WhiteEvery day in the village is an adventure for busy little Milly-Molly-Mandy! Written by English writer Joyce Lankester Brisley in 1992, The Adventures of Milly-Molly-Mandy is one of the eight books that make up the Milly-Molly-Mandy series of children’s books, where Brisley’s young readers grow and learn in joy alongside Milly-Molly-Mandy.

At the beginning of the story, Brisley provides the readers with a line-drawing of a map. How does this map help readers ‘integrate’ themselves better into Milly-Molly-Mandy’s world?

How would you describe the village that Milly-Molly-Mandy grew up in? How is the environment and culture of that village similar to or different from the one you live in? Which one do you prefer, and why?

The ‘adventures’ of Milly-Molly-Mandy are actually no more than everyday errands and encounters of a little girl. Why do you think Milly-Molly-Mandy is able to find joy and excitement in such ordinary events? What does this reflect about her personality, and how can we incorporate such a state of mind into our daily lives? How will doing so help us become a better and happier person?
